Chapter Guide – Act 2.1.3 – Evolution – 1st 5-Star

Summoners!

Here’s my guide for Act 2.1.3 “Evolution” in Marvel Contest of Champions.

General Thoughts:

Note: Defenders for Act 2 have been updated. King Groot has the same shrug-off issue that Kingpin and Agent Venom had in the preceding chapters. The left path has Old Man Logan and Sabretooth, so you may want to bring a Bleed-Immune Champion

The one thing to watch out for in this Chapter is the awakened Juggernaut on Paths 2 and 3. Previously, Juggernaut appeared in his unawakened form, so he would only go Unstoppable at the beginning of the fight. He will now also go Unstoppable following every special attack. Your choices are to run out the Unstoppable timer without Parrying him, power drain him so he can’t use specials, or to use a champion that can place the Slow Debuff to prevent the Unstoppable.

I opened a number of crystals following my 2.1.3 run thanks to Mutant Treasure Island and Alliance War Season 20 rewards. My haul included an awakening of my 4-Star Killmonger (I guess I’ll have to use him after all), 4-Star Hulk, 4-Star Old Man Logan (excited to have a reason to use him) and finally, my first 5-Star on this account, 5-Star Hulk.

Chapter Guide – Act 2.1.2 – The Mad Titan – Easy Mode

Summoners!

Here’s my guide for Act 2.1.2 “The Mad Titan” in Marvel Contest of Champions.

General Thoughts:

Note: Defenders have been updated for Act 2. Be careful with Agent Venom, as he can shrug-off debuffs like Kingpin from the previous chapter, Ronan’s projectile specials (you may want a bleed-immune) and Groot’s SP2.

This is as easy as it gets. Nothing to worry about as far as defender difficulty goes, even the Drax Boss is not going to be an issue.

I didn’t Level-Up during this quest. The highlight of the run was actually unlocking a key for the Mutant Treasure Island Side Quest. I was able to pull 2,000 4-Star shards, which rewarded me with a 4-Star Killmonger. Killmonger is an excellent champion, and I’d advise new players to rank him up. Because I’ve played Killmonger a lot on my main account, I likely won’t use him much on Frontline Jr, though.

Chapter Guide – Act 2.1.1 – New Recruits – Level 22

Summoners!

Here’s my guide for Act 2.1.1 “New Recruits” in Marvel Contest of Champions.

General Thoughts:

Note: Act 2 has been updated, so you will face different defenders now. The only new defender placement that could be an issue is Kingpin, because he can shrug-off debuffs including stun. Your best option is to bait his heavy attack and SP1.

It’s been a little over a month since my last Frontline Jr adventure. During this time I have kept the account active by participating in Alliance Quest (Maps 1-2) and Alliance War, so I have gained some resources which has allowed me to rank-up and acquire new champs. While I would have liked to have gotten into Act 2 sooner on this account, I had to catch up on other content first.

I decided to test out a few of my newer champions in the quest, including my 4-Star Emma Frost. She’s an excellent champion for new players because she is very tanky in Diamond Form, has good damage, and also is immune to many forms of damaging debuffs. If you pull her as a 3 or 4-star around this time, she’s worth investing in.

In this chapter, you’ll mostly see 3-Star unawakened defenders. There are also random Adaptoid ambushes, but they are very low PI so you won’t have any problems with them.

I reached Level 22 during Act 2.1.1 Exploration, and added the Mastery Point to Recovery.

If you have questions about the basic attack moves and combos in Marvel Contest of Champions, please check out my MCOC 101: Combos guide.

Best Champs: Any

Boss: 3-Star Rhino (duped)

Boss Notes: With Rhino you need to be wary of his “Rhino Charge.” When he dashes in he will be Unstoppable, and there is a random chance his attack will be Unblockable. Note that the bigger the opponent is (size tag), the less chance for the Unblockable to trigger.

Your safest plays are to parry Rhino when you are close to him after finishing your combo, or baiting his SP1 attack and then dashing in to counter-attack.

Lane 1 – Left

Gate: None

Defenders: Juggernaut, Ronan, Captain America, Science Adaptoid, Abomination

Nodes: None

Team: Emma Frost (4-Star Rank 1 Sig 0), Elsa Bloodstone (3-Star Rank 2 Sig 0), Mole Man (4-Star Rank 1 Sig 0), Vulture (4-Star Rank 1 Sig 0)

Tips: Juggernaut will begin the fight with an Unstoppable Buff. His Unstoppable works differently than others in the game in that he can not be Parry-Stunned while Unstoppable. While you only have to worry about this at the start of the fight, if Juggernaut was awakened, he would go Unstoppable following every one of his Special Attacks.

Lane 2 – Center

Nodes: None

Team: Emma Frost (4-Star Rank 1 Sig 0), Elsa Bloodstone (3-Star Rank 2 Sig 0), Mole Man (4-Star Rank 1 Sig 0), Vulture (4-Star Rank 1 Sig 0)

Tips: See Juggernaut notes in Path 1.
