Chapter Guide – Variant 6 Chapter 2.1

Summoners!

Here’s my guide for Variant 6 Chapter 2.1 “Get a Clue” in Marvel Contest of Champions!

General Thoughts:

Chapter 2.1 is a fairly simple four-path chapter if you have the correct counters. You’ll need Villains with Heal Block/Heal Reversal, Unblockable/Unstoppable, and a mystic with nullify. Thankfully, three of the best all-around villains in the game – Magneto, Void, and Doctor Doom, can more than handle everything this chapter will throw at them.

The left hand side of the map is easier and could be run by 4-Star versions. The right side of the map is a bit less forgiving as you’re going to be losing and healing back health quite a bit, so it’s a good spot to use a health boost, especially if you have extra in your stash.

If you have questions about the basic attack moves and combos in Marvel Contest of Champions, please check out my MCOC 101: Combos guide.

Best Champs: Magneto, Doctor Doom, Void

Restrictions: Non-#Villain champions can be brought into the quest for synergy purposes but will suffer major penalties if used on attack.

Global Node:
+400% Champion Boost
SP3 Active

Black ISO Resonance – Attackers increase their attack by 100% but take 5% of their max health as Direct Damage every second. This can not be prevented but attackers are immune to all other sources of damage. Does not apply to #Villain champions.
Malevolence – Non-#Villain attackers are unable to gain power.
Malignance – Non-#Villain attackers are unable to heal.

Boss: Electro

Boss Notes:
+300% Health
+100% Attack
Monster
Beast
Arc Overlord 2.1
Unblockable Specials

So the trick here is to deal with Electro’s static shock by out-healing it with a Villain Attacker. You can do this by playing into the Monster node, which grants your attacker a Passive Regeneration when they go Unstoppable or Unblockable.

Probably the easiest option for this fight is Magneto, who gains an Unstoppable Buff during a Heavy attack. Combine that with the “My Brotherhood” Synergy (Juggernaut/Scarlet Witch/Magik/Sabretooth) and Magneto will place a heal block on every knock, negating the Arc Overload regeneration on Electro and solving the second issue present in this fight.

Other options for the Electro boss include Kingpin, Sentinel, Doctor Doom, and Mojo with the Korg/Hulk Ragnarok Synergy.

Lane 1 – Left

Gate: None

Defenders: The Hood, Goldpool, Sentry, Loki, Colossus, Guardian, Aarkus, Star-Lord

Nodes: Monster, Beast, Aggression: Regeneration, Recovery (The Hood – Guardian), Beast, 1% Regeneration, Recovery (Aarkus, Star-Lord)

Team: Doctor Doom (5-Star Rank 5 Sig 200), Void (5-Star Rank 5 Sig 200), Killmonger (5-Star Rank 5 Sig 200), Magneto (5-Star Rank 5 Sig 21), Sabretooth (5-Star Rank 5 Sig 60)

Tips: This is a big regeneration lane, so if you’ve got Void (even as a 4-Star) bring him as your main lane clearer with Killmonger for synergy purposes to heal back chip damage. Then sit back and simply heal reverse the defenders for easy KOs. Doom is great for Aarkus, it was actually a very easy fight. Once you Nullify the Regeneration Node, a couple of SP2s will take him down.

For Electro I tried Doom, who got him to about 60% health. I then went in with Magneto, and he is amazing for this fight. The Monster node allows you to heal back all the chip damage from hitting Electro, while the Heal Block from the Sabretooth synergy controls the regeneration. Just use the standard Magneto Heavy/SP1 spam for an easy fight.

Lane 2 – Left Center

Gate: None

Defenders: The Hood, Goldpool, Sentry, Tigra, Thor Ragnarok, Blade, Aarkus, Star-Lord

Nodes: Monster, Beast, Aggression: Regeneration, Recovery (The Hood – The Sentry), Beast, 1% Regeneration, Recovery (Tigra-Star-Lord)

Team: Doctor Doom (5-Star Rank 5 Sig 200), Void (5-Star Rank 5 Sig 200), Killmonger (5-Star Rank 5 Sig 200), Magneto (5-Star Rank 5 Sig 21), Sabretooth (5-Star Rank 5 Sig 60)

Tips: Basically the same issue as Lane 1 with all the Regeneration, but I think Magneto (with the heal-block synergy) does better than Void once the 1% Regeneration kicks in, so I would switch to him if you can once you reach Tigra. He’s quicker and feeds her less power, and has class advantage over Thor Ragnarok and Blade. Then go with Doom (or your best Mystic Villain) for Aarkus, and Magneto for the Electro boss.

If you don’t have Void or Magneto I would use Sentinel for the main lane, but you’ll need someone like Omega Red or Kingpin for the Electro boss.

Lane 3 – Right Center

Gate: None

Defenders: Mr. Sinister, Red Hulk, OG Vision, Old Man Logan, Ghost, Doctor Voodoo, Aarkus, Star-Lord

Nodes: Monster, Thorns (Mr. Sinister, Red Hulk, OG Vision), Beast, 1% Regeneration, Recovery (Old Man Logan, Ghost, Doctor Voodoo, Aarkus, Star-Lord)

Team: Mojo (5-Star Rank 5 Sig 20), Doctor Room (5-Star Rank 5 Sig 200), Phoenix (6-Star Rank 1 Sig 0), Magneto (5-Star Rank 5 Sig 21), Sabretooth (5-Star Rank 5 Sig 60)

Tips: This is a split Thorns/Regeneration path that Magneto just owns. I went for a full Magneto synergy team here, bringing along Sabretooth, Phoenix, and Mojo to give the Master of Magnetism additional boosts.

You’ll want to use the standard Heavy knockdown strategy, but I did find myself varying the specials more on this path. For Mr. Sinister, you have to be careful because you don’t want the Bleed Debuffs thrown back at you. On the Red Hulk fight, the SP3 is good because you won’t take damage back like with the SP1. For OG Vision, Old Man Logan, and Ghost the SP2 is a good way to go.

I switched over to Doom for Aarkus and Star-Lord, then back to Magneto for another Electro solo.

Lane 4 – Right

Gate: None

Defenders: Mr. Sinister, Red Hulk, OG Vision, Scarlet Witch, Sorcerer Supreme, Namor, Aarkus, Star-Lord

Nodes: Monster, Thorns (Mr. Sinister, Red Hulk, OG Vision, Scarlet Witch, Sorcerer Supreme, Namor), Beast, 1% Regeneration, Recovery (Aarkus, Star-Lord)

Team: Mojo (5-Star Rank 5 Sig 20), Doctor Room (5-Star Rank 5 Sig 200), Phoenix (6-Star Rank 1 Sig 0), Magneto (5-Star Rank 5 Sig 21), Magik (5-Star Rank 5 Sig 40)

Tips: This path is very similar to Path 3, but there are more Thorns fights so you really need the healing from the Monster Node. I brought a full Magneto synergy team to Parry/Heavy my way from Mr. Sinister through Namor, then switched to Doom for Aarkus and Star-Lord, and back to Magneto for the Electro solo.

No real tricky fights here. Scarlet Witch might get a Poison on you but you should be able to heal that back. It’s really just about being focused and having your Parry game on point, because if you do get hit (especially by Red Hulk) you’re going to lose most of your health.
