Chapter Guide – Variant 6 Chapter 3.2 – Fight At Joe’s – “Belly Bumps & Doom Slaps”

Summoners!

Here’s my guide for Variant 6 Chapter 3.2 “Fight at Joe’s” in Marvel Contest of Champions.

General Thoughts:

There are a few tough fights on this map (post-buff Bishop, Mojo) and you’ll need an Icarus counter, but once again the top villains like Apocalypse, Magneto, and Doctor Doom neutralize most of the difficulty. This quest is a great place to break out Kingpin with The Hood synergy, which I’ll get into in the path breakdowns.

If you have questions about the basic attack moves and combos in Marvel Contest of Champions, please check out my MCOC 101: Combos guide.

Best Champs: Apocalypse, Void, Kingpin, Magneto, Doctor Doom

Restrictions: Only use #Villains on attack. Non-Villains can be brought for synergy purposes.

Global Node:
+400% Champion Boost
SP3 Active
Black ISO Resonance – Attackers increase their attack by 100% but take 5% of their max health as Direct Damage every second. This can not be prevented but attackers are immune to all other sources of damage. Does not apply to #Villain champions.
Malevolence – Non-#Villain attackers are unable to gain power.
Malignance – Non-#Villain attackers are unable to heal.

Boss: Joe Fixit

Boss Notes:
+300% Health
Madness – When triggering an Armor Break Debuff, Villain attackers will also apply a Passive Powerlock to the defender for the duration of the armor break.
Tyrant – Villain Attackers cause 50% of their attack as bonus Energy Damage each time they hit their opponent or their block as long as the defender is suffering from a Weakness Debuff.
Monster – When triggering an Unstoppable or Unblockable Buff or Passive, Villain attackers will grant themselves a non-stacking Passive Regeneration granting 10% of their max health over 5 seconds
SP1 Bias
Superior Specials 2 – Defender starts the fight with an indefinite Passive Prowess increasing special damage by 100%
Strike Back
Heavy Hitter

Joe Fixit is an easy final boss. The key is in playing into the Strike Back Node. As his SP1 deals a lot of chip damage, use the Strikeback Node to your advantage by using specials to push Fixit to an SP2, which is easy to punish. While you can use any Villain for this fight, champions with Ability Accuracy Reductions or Power Control may unnecessarily complicate matters.

Remember you can play into the Tyrant node by running the Resonate Mastery for a chance at placing a Weakness debuff on the opponent.

Lane 1 – Far Left Path

Gate: None

Defenders: Sunspot, Guillotine 2099, Captain America Infinity War, Magneto House of X, Mojo, Old Man Logan, Masacre, Ronin, Diablo

Nodes: Genius, Madness, Energize 1, Enhanced SP2 (Sunspot – Ronin), Henchman, Mastermind, Icarus, Highly Flammable (Diablo)

Team: Apocalypse (6-Star Rank 3 Sig 20), Void (5-Star Rank 5 Sig 200), Killmonger (5-Star Rank 5 Sig 200), Doctor Doom (5-Star Rank 5 Sig 200), Magneto (5-Star Rank 5 Sig 40)

Tips:

The nodes aren’t a major issue on this lane, but I think the problem people may run into is the Mojo fight. With Human Torch or Spider-Ham unavailable for this quest, you’ll be forced to use a secondary option like Void or Magneto and that can prove tricky.

Other issues to watch out for on this lane are Guillotine 2099, who is completely shut down by Magneto so bring him if possible. If you don’t solo Mojo he’ll only get stronger, so be careful here because this fight can cost you some items.

You’ll need a non-Metal champion for Magneto House of M, and ideally a Power Control champion for Masacre as his Special 2 can one-shot you. There is one Icarus fight on this path, Diablo, who can be countered by working in Heavy attacks to your rotation or cheesed by Ghost or Killmonger with the Void synergy.

Joe Fixit is an easy boss, just use strike back to your advantage and bait the SP2. Personally I used Apocalypse but he doesn’t need a specific counter.

Lane 2 – Left, Right, Left

Gate: None

Defenders: Sunspot, Guillotine 2099, Captain America Infinity War, Thor, Wasp, X-23, Bishop, Mole Man, Diablo

Nodes: Genius, Madness, Energize 1, Enhanced SP2 (Sunspot – Captain America Infinity War), Henchman, Mastermind, Icarus, Highly Flammable (Thor – Diablo)

Team: Apocalypse (6-Star Rank 3 Sig 20), Void (5-Star Rank 5 Sig 200), Killmonger (5-Star Rank 5 Sig 200), Venom (5-Star Rank 5 Sig 60), Magneto (5-Star Rank 5 Sig 40)

Tips: For this lane I recommend bringing Magneto for Guillotine 2099, an incinerate immune champion for Bishop, and a mutant for Mole Man. Those are your three main issues. Remember that the Icarus Lane can be cheesed with Killmonger and the Void Synergy (and Void is incinerate-immune) or with Ghost.

For my run I used Sunspot to ramp up Apocalypse and then Magneto for Guillotine 2099. After you armor break her she’ll be power-locked so that’s an easy fight. Cap IW and Thor are easy, but the Wasp fight can be tricky. If she catches you once you’re done.

Magneto can also easily take X-23, and he turns off Icarus in that fight. Bishop is a rough fight, unless you’ve got the SP2 dex down perfectly and he isn’t in the mode to throw his SP1. I got him 80% down with Apocalypse before dying. If you have to go in a second time, make sure your champ is Incinerate immune or they won’t last long. I ended up using 1 revive to bring back Apocalypse for Mole Man. You’ll likely want a mutant so you have access to Parry Stun to clear the Icarus Fury buffs. Diablo is an easy last fight, and then I got the Solo on the Joe Fixit boss with Apocalypse.

Lane 3 – Left Right Right

Gate: None

Defenders: Sunspot, Guillotine 2099, Captain America Infinity War, Thor, Wasp, Nova, Terrax, Red Skull, Diablo

Nodes: Genius, Madness, Energize 1, Enhanced SP2 (Sunspot – Captain America Infinity War), Henchman, Mastermind, Icarus, Highly Flammable (Thor – Diablo)

Team: Apocalypse (6-Star Rank 3 Sig 20), Void (5-Star Rank 5 Sig 200), Killmonger (5-Star Rank 5 Sig 200), Doctor Doom (5-Star Rank 5 Sig 200), Magneto (5-Star Rank 5 Sig 40)

Tips: This is the second Icarus path and it only features three unique fights from Path 2, being Nova, Terrax, and Red Skull. If you have Doctor Doom, he’s the obvious pick here as a Mystic villain. Take advantage of the Highly Flammable node by using Doom’s SP2. My 5/65 took down Nova with one SP2.

Overall, my run was much the same as Path 2, building up Apocalypse early, using Magneto for Guillotine 2099 and Wasp (remember she’s #Metal), then Doom for the Mystics and finishing off Diablo and the Joe Fixit boss with Void.

Lane 4 – Right, Right, Up, Left

Gate: None

Defenders: Kingpin, Karnak, Scarlet Witch, Mister Fantastic, Omega Red, Red Guardian, Iceman, Hulk, Hawkeye

Nodes: Overlord, Tyrant, Aggressive, Heavy Assault, Buff Duration +40% (Kingpin – Scarlet Witch), Monster, Beast, Caltrops, Arc Overload 2.0 (Mister Fantastic – Hawkeye)

Team: Apocalypse (6-Star Rank 3 Sig 20), Kingpin (6-Star Rank 2 Sig 0), The Hood (6-Star Rank 1 Sig 0), Sentinel (5-Star Rank 5 Sig Sig 160), Ghost (5-Star Rank 5 Sig 0)

Tips:

The big issues here are dealing with the combo of Caltrops (Bleed on dash-back) and Arc Overload, and having a poison-immune champion for Scarlet Witch. If possible, you want to bring champions that have Unstoppable/Unblockable Heavy Attacks that can play into the Beast Node and reverse the defender’s healing. Magneto, Sentinel, and Kingpin are all useful for this scenario.

Personally, I went with Apocalypse for Kingpin and Karnak, and Sentinel for Scarlet Witch to start things off. I then ran Kingpin for the rest of the way. His Heavy attack grants a .8 seconds Unstoppable Buff, which takes care of the opponent’s regen. I brought The Hood (Joe Fixit would also work) along for the +100% Rage Purify Ability Accuracy. This effectively takes the worry from Caltrops away, and also deals with Iceman’s Coldsnap. Simply Parry and Heavy your way to victory!

I then used Apocalypse for the Joe Fixit boss.

Lane 5 – Right, Right, Up, Right

Gate:

Defenders: Kingpin, Karnak, Scarlet Witch, Mister Fantastic, Omega Red, Doctor Doom, Archangel, She-Hulk, Hawkeye

Nodes: Overlord, Tyrant, Aggressive, Heavy Assault, Buff Duration +40% (Kingpin – Scarlet Witch), Monster, Beast, Caltrops, Arc Overload 2.0 (Mister Fantastic – Hawkeye)

Team: Apocalypse (6-Star Rank 3 Sig 20) Kingpin (6-Star Rank 2 Sig 0), The Hood (6-Star Rank 1 Sig 0), Magneto (5-Star Sig 40), Sentinel (5-Star Rank 5 Sig 160)

Tips:

Lane 5 is very similar to Lane 4, but Doctor Doom complicates things because he can resist Heavy Attacks after throwing an SP1, so the Kingpin strategy isn’t as viable. It can be done of course, but you need to wait out Doom’s Aura and the fights will be much longer. If at all possible, you’ll want to use Magneto here as Doom is Metal and Magneto has a Bleed and Shock reduction.

Other than the Doom fight, Lane 5 was basically a repeat of my Lane 4 strategy, using Apocalypse early, Kingpin for the Beast fights strategy.

Lane 6 – Far Right – Easy Path

Gate: None

Defenders: Kingpin, Karnak, Scarlet Witch, Wolverine, Venom, Mordo, Carnage, Hyperion, Hawkeye

Nodes: Overlord, Tyrant, Aggressive, Heavy Assault, Buff Duration +40% (Kingpin – Hyperion), Monster, Beast, Caltrops, Arc Overload 2.0 (Hawkeye)

Team: Apocalypse (5-Mojo (5-Star Rank 5 Sig 160), Doctor Doom (5-Star Rank 5 Sig 200), Void (5-Star Rank 5 Sig 200), Sentinel (5-Star Rank 5 Sig 160)

Tips:

Lane 6 keeps the Tyrant/Heavy Assault lane identity in play until the final Hawkeye fight. Bring champions like Doom, Apocalypse, Sentinel, Kingpin who benefit from using Heavy attacks.

Personally I built up Apocalypse in the first 2 fights, used Sentinel for Scarlet Witch again, and then it was Doom the rest of the way. His “Doom Slap” is in all its glory here. You can just heavy attack until you hit one bar of power, throw an SP1, then repeat. Overlord gives you a crit bonus when you Nullify Buffs, Heavy Assault gives you +500% Heavy Attack, and I was running Resonate so I could get the Weakness debuff for extra damage from the Tyrant node.

I would consider this the Easy Path in general, provided you have a mystic to Nullify Mordo and Hyperion’s Power Gain. If you have Doom it is absolutely the easy path.

For the boss I once again used Apocalypse, and got the 100% exploration for Variant 6!
