Here’s your Marvel Contest of Champions news brief for Saturday, August 10, 2019.
Bug Note: Sinister Labs did not reset yesterday. Kabam posted the following statement on the forums – “We are aware of an issue affecting some users where the Sinister Labs may not have reset from yesterday. We are working on a fix for this right now. Thank you all for your patience.”
An Android only update has been released – 24.1.1 – to help solve crashing issues.
Schedule Notes: 100% roster availability until AW attack resumes around 2pm EST today.
Seatin continues to drop more videos, covering the Variant 3 announcement and highlighting gameplay from his new 5* Sunspot.
Craftygrinding has arena predictions for Round 1 of the Sunspot and Blue Cyclops arenas.
As a way help players get through the champion gate requirements for the Class Trip event, Kabam released solo objectives in the final week of the event which granted a 2* version of a Spider-verse character after defeating that character 50 times. As I already had all the champions needed to get through the gates, I wanted to see if the 50 fights was something an active player would naturally accomplish or if it would require a targeted grind. Here’s how I did:
As you can see, I got nowhere close to completing the objectives. My best result was 19/50 on Stark Spidey, and I didn’t defeat a single Vulture in seven days! That’s really incredible.
How active was I during this timeframe? I put up 3.3m in the 4* Havok arena and finished all milestones in the Alpha and the T4 Basic arenas. I also finished the last 3 levels of normal EQ as well as multiple daily catalyst quests.
The only way to get to 50 kills was targeted, mindless grinding. I hope if Kabam decides to continue with gates in the future, there will be a less time consuming way to acquire the needed champs, especially in temporary content.

Schedule Notes: 100% roster availability following the conclusion of AW attack.
Kabam announced Back Issues #3 – Polar Opposites will be released on Wednesday, August 14. Tech champions appear to have a major advantage in the variant quest, especial the mutant hunting robot Sentinel. 2015 and 2016 champs will be eligible for the special 3-4 rank up gems this time.
Here’s your Marvel Contest of Champions news brief for Thursday, August 8, 2019.
Schedule Notes: Sunspot officially joins the contest and is the featured arena champ. Blue Team Cyclops is the 4* basic arena. AQ series ends.
Marvel Insider:Activities for X-Machina are live. This month complete Easy, Normal, and Heroic for points, as well as the 5th chain of the “Win Fights with a Mutant Champ” solo objective. Unfortunately, instead of a 2 or 3 star Warlock or Sunspot as rewards, only X-Men crystal themed bundles are available, so this might be a good month to save your points.
Kabam announced that starting in October, balancing for recently released champs will be announced prior to them hitting the basic pool. There will then be approximately 3 months of testing before the balancing goes live in-game.

Kabam put up the official forum post on the X-Machina Event Quest. According to Kabam Miike “…one thing you’ll find this month is that the difficulty has come down. We’ve chosen less punishing path and Boss Buffs.”
Contest Champion may not pay-to-play, but if you offer him a free trial of the Summoner Sigil you know he’s going to grind out some value from it.
While Brian isn’t going to subscribe, Katy Candy didn’t waste any time signing up.
We’re still waiting for the full Colossus and Old Man Logan buffs, apparently Colossus’ new move-set has gone live with v24.1. Check out Ciq’s video breakdown so you don’t have to explain in your line chat why you died to Colossus next war.
Mr. Sinister appears to following in M.O.D.O.K’s tiny, mutated footsteps and is opening his own Laboratory. Here’s a quick rundown on the format.
Time: Wednesday, August 7 to Wednesday, September 4. Resets every 24 hours (28 times).
Format: 4 difficulty tiers, each with 2 paths. 6 fights per path. Total of 8 paths per day. You have 10 entries per day, so you get two opportunities to back out if needed.
What’s New: In addition to the randomizers you can use to re-roll the buffs, you can also select Sensory Boosts which give your champions different benefits. Some of these benefits are increased for, or only apply to mutant champions.
Team Selection Advice: We don’t know what we’re dealing with in terms of new buffs, champs in the labs, or opponent PI. Best bet, especially early, is to cover as many bases as possible in terms of immunity and utility.
Mutant champions gain added bonuses from the Sensory Boosts, so champs such as Iceman, Emma Frost, and Omega Red may have increased value in this event as they are immune to multiple damaging debuffs.
When putting together a team, I recommend bringing at least one champion that can overcome the following nodes/forms of damage: Bleed, Poison, Incinerate, Power Gain, Auto-Block, Auto-Evade, Caustic Temper and Reverse Controls.
An example of such a team would be Iceman, OG Vision, Killmonger, Hyperion, & Emma Frost.
Other non-mutant champs to consider as they could be useful in multiple scenarios: Science: Void, Quake, Gladiator Hulk, Cap IW Skill: Blade, Korg Tech: Darkhawk, Ghost, Sentinel, Iron Man IW, Mysterio, Sparky Cosmic: Captain Marvel Movie, Corvus, Medusa Mystic: Magik, Mephisto, Morningstar, Dormammu, Ghost Rider, Symbiote Supreme

The Class Trip event wraps up this Wednesday at 1pm EST, and you likely have left over S.H.I.E.L.D. Markers. After the event concludes, you will have an additional 7 days to spend any markers in the “Souvenir” section of the store.
If you are actively participating in alliance war, you will likely want to prioritize the Lesser Attack and Lesser Champion boosts, as spending markers on these now will save you units later.
After capping out on boosts, there are a number of catalysts available, with full T1a, and 7,200 T4b shards being the most relevant to end game players.
One nice bonus in the Souvenir store is that the cost per item does not increase with each additional purchase, like we sometimes see with featured items.
Whatever you decide to purchase, make sure you spend your excess markers before they expire on August 14.
